Senior Framing Estimator & Digital Systems Lead
Remote | Full-Time | Calgary Hours (MST/MDT overlap required)
Reports directly to the Founder/Owner
We are looking for someone who can live between construction estimating and digital systems. The right person can read a structural plan, question a bad quantity, troubleshoot an Excel formula, write a better AI prompt, and push a quote through a structured
process without losing track of evidence, deadlines, or accountability.

Framerz Inc. is a Calgary-based framing estimating and quoting firm specializing in multi-residential and mixed-use wood-frame construction across Western Canada. We have built a proprietary estimating workflow that combines structured Excel workbooks, plan
analysis, keyword and evidence detection, AI-assisted review, and estimator QA to produce faster, more consistent framing quotes.
The Role
This is not a traditional manual-takeoff position. You will operate and improve our proprietary estimating system while taking ownership of quote accuracy from intake through submission. You will load projects, verify source files, review AI-generated answers,
check quantities against plans and takeoff data, identify missing scope, flag RFIs, investigate benchmark outliers, and make sure the quote is ready before it goes to the client.
The role is roughly 60% system operation / AI-assisted estimating and 40% construction judgment / QA.
Mission: Own the estimating workflow from intake to quote-ready output, using construction judgment and digital tools to ensure every quote is accurate, evidence-backed, and submitted on time.
Responsibilities
Operate the estimating workflow from project intake through quote-ready review.
Load new projects into structured Excel workbooks using plan files, takeoff exports, PDF text extracts, and project intake data.
Follow our step-by-step quoting process, including preflight checks, evidence review, quantity validation, benchmark checks, and quote-readiness gates.
Review AI-generated scope answers, quantities, pricing factors, and assumptions against architectural, structural, truss, EWP, and scope documents.
Verify that major quote lines are supported by a plan reference, takeoff quantity, formula basis, documented assumption, or RFI.
Identify missing scope, stale project data, formula errors, broken links, circular references, and unsupported quantities before a quote is issued.
Compare plan revisions, addenda, and drawing sets to identify changed framing scope, connectors, hold-downs, shear walls, hardware, floor/roof systems, and cost impacts.
Improve the system's automated scope-detection logic so weak line items lead to clear decisions about where an item occurs, when it applies, how many are required, and what is excluded.
Improve keyword and evidence detection rules so generic search terms are treated as clues and stronger context is required before scope is accepted.
Write and refine prompts for AI tools when the system produces incomplete, unsupported, or misleading results.
Use AI agents, code editors, Excel, and related tools to review workbooks, run scripts, audit formulas, troubleshoot logic, and improve process speed - while verifying output before anything is accepted into the quote.
Flag RFIs and priced assumptions when drawings are ambiguous or required information is missing.
Run benchmark checks by category and investigate $/sqft outliers before quote submission.
Document changes, decisions, formula updates, prompt changes, and quote risks in the appropriate logs.
What This Role Is Not
This is not a traditional estimator role where all quantities are manually taken off from scratch.
This is not a pure software or developer role.
This is not a data-entry role.
This is not a role where AI output is accepted without review.
This role requires ownership. The system will produce recommendations, but the estimator is responsible for verifying whether those recommendations make sense before the quote is submitted.
Requirements
Required Construction Experience
Experience estimating, coordinating, reviewing, or building wood-frame construction.
Ability to read architectural and structural drawings without relying entirely on takeoff software.
Understanding of wall, floor, roof, truss, sheathing, stair, deck, balcony, and fire-separation assemblies.
Ability to identify framing hardware and structural items such as hangers, hold-downs, straps, clips, anchors, shear walls, LVL/LSL/PSL beams, blocking, and fastener requirements.
Ability to recognize when a quantity, scope answer, or quote total does not make sense for the building type.
Multi-residential wood-frame experience is strongly preferred.
Required Technical Skills
Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, conditional logic, formula auditing, structured references, named ranges, and large workbook navigation.
Comfortable working in large macro-enabled workbooks with many sheets, formulas, linked data sources, and audit logs.
Daily practical use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar.
Able to write clear prompts, review AI output critically, and correct incomplete or inaccurate results.
Comfortable learning AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or VS Code to run scripts, inspect outputs, and troubleshoot automation.
Able to work with file types such as .xlsm, .xlsx, .pdf, .csv, .docx, .json, and exported plan/takeoff data.
Preferred / Trainable Skills
Basic VBA, Python, or scripting knowledge.
Experience editing or reviewing formulas and macros.
Experience with Git or version control concepts.
Experience with Kreo, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or other digital takeoff/plan review tools.
Experience as a quantity surveyor or cost engineer.
Familiarity with Simpson Strong-Tie and similar connector product lines.
Working Style
You treat AI as a power tool, not magic - you verify output, catch hallucinations, and never blindly trust results.
Methodical about logging what changed and why.
Able to context-switch between construction thinking and systems/technology thinking.
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
Available during core Calgary hours, generally 8:00 AM-4:30 PM MST/MDT, with flexibility around bid deadlines.
Success in This Role
Quotes completed on time against bid deadlines.
Quote output passes internal accuracy audit before submission.
Fewer stale-project, wrong-file, or contaminated-data issues.
RFI and assumptions lists are clear, complete, and issued proactively.
Benchmark outliers investigated and explained before quote goes out.
Formula, prompt, and process changes logged with reasoning.
Quote revisions compared accurately against prior sets with cost impacts identified.
At least one measurable system improvement implemented per month.
First 90 Days
Days 1-30
Learn the Framerz quoting process and estimating system structure.
Run sample quote reviews and walkthroughs.
Understand the step-by-step workflow: project intake, keyword detection, scope questions, quantity logic, benchmarks, and prompt tools.
Identify obvious quote risks and stale-data issues.
Days 30-60
Run active quote files with supervision.
Complete benchmark and evidence reviews independently.
Improve weak scope-detection logic and prompt workflows.
Produce clean assumption/RFI notes for active quotes.
Days 60-90
Own active quote processing with limited supervision.
Improve at least one major estimating category or process.
Help reduce manual review time and improve quote confidence.
